The World Scientific Congress of Golf V was a stimulating and enjoyable week for all who attended. The presentations ranged from earthworms and grass to shafts and golf balls, to all aspects of the golfer. The social activities provided an arena for stimulating conversation and future research.

The Congress committee would like to personally thank the title sponsor, The LPGA Foundation, and all the sponsors for making the Congress a reality. The exhibitors provided a forum in the foyer for continued exploration of all aspects of the game.

The Golf Digest Research Award winners included:

1.       Bob Christina, The Martin Farrally- Golfer Award.

2.       Jay Worobets, The Alastair Cochran- Equipment and Technology Award.

3.       Mark Bartlett, The Mike Canaway- Golf Course Award.

Their papers can be read in the WSCG-V Golf and Science Book. Also available is an important and both historical and currently relevant publication, The Future of Golfers- 2001 Presentations. This book is a stimulating compilation of 27 different aspects of the golfer written by expert researchers and professionals in the field, from the last interim conference.

Debbie Crews, WSCG V Congress Director will head the steering committee for the WSCG. The WSCG VI will be held in 2012. The site is yet to be determined. The steering committee for the WSCG is interested in proposals from groups associated with an academic institution that would like to host the conference. For those that missed these outstanding presentations, these materials are an essential addition to any scholarly or professional collection on golf research.

Unlocking the Genetic Code to Golf: Past, Present, and Possiblities.
Dr. Greg Rose, CCSP

Dr. Greg Rose is the co-host of the Golf Fitness Academy seen weekly on the Golf Channel and a co-founder of the Titleist Performance Institute in Oceanside, California. Greg is also a Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner and a Fellow in the International Academy of Clinical Acupuncture. Greg’s research using 3-D motion capture models of the golf swing has helped golf professionals all over the world get a better understanding of how the body works during the golf swing.

Tom Wishon, author of the Search for the Perfect Golf Club, The Search for the Perfect Driver and Common Sense Clubfitting: The Wishon Method, is also the author of five additional books on clubmaking, shaft and clubfitting technology. Tom has 32 years of clubfitting research and development. 
 
Golf Course Environmental Profile: Property Features and Water Use
Clark Throssell, Ph.D.

Dr. Clark Throssell is Director of Research for the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA). He leads a competitive grants program that funds scientists to conduct applied agronomic, environmental and regulatory research to benefit golf course superintendents. In addition, Clark is a technical reviewer for the research section of Golf Course Management magazine. He is GCSAA’s liaison to the turfgrass scientific community and represents GCSAA on several turf industry committees. Throssell is also involved with the GCSAA’s Environmental Institute for Golf.
